Description
The Kenton Research Switched
Line Combiner and Splitter Unit MOD6951 has been designed to be used in
telecontrol applications where one central control modem is to be connected
to up to eight remote sites each equipped with a 4-wire switched carrier
modem. Signals from the control modem pass through the unit and are sent
to each remote site. The response channel from a remote site is only switched
through to the control modem when valid modem tones are detected and an
interlock disables the other response channels. An antistreaming timer
will lock out any response channel with carrier on for longer than the
set period and allow the remaining channels to function correctly. Robust
modem tone detection techniques provide fast reliable switching with excellent
immunity from spurious signals and noise.
The
unit incorporates level adjustment on each output port. Line amplification
with selectable amplitude HF equalisation on the input ports allows use
on copper cables. Powering is from an external dc supply 19 to 60V dc
positive or negative earth with built-in over-voltage and under-voltage
protection. Comprehensive alarm and status outputs are provided for connection
to SCADA systems for remote monitoring and maintenance.
Construction
The unit is housed in a wall-mounted
DIN standard IP66 enclosure which houses a eurocard subrack with hinged
cover in the upper section and a pcb backplane which extends down to the
lower section. Removing the cover on the lower section gives access to
the pcb mounted connectors for user wiring, power wiring to a Klippon
screw terminal block, safety earth to a M5 stud and all other connections
to Krone IDC connectors. Glands are provided on the base of the unit for
cable entry. A power supply module and control card are fitted as standard
in the eurocard subrack. Line cards are fitted as required, 5 for a system
with 4 remote ports up to 9 for a system with 8 remote ports. Front panel
LED indicators and test access sockets are provided to assist commissioning
and maintenance.
An
adapter bracket is available to permit mounting in a standard 19"
racking enclosure.

Mains
Power Supply
MOD 6951PU
The mains power
supply operates from a mains supply 200 to 240 VAC and provides
a regulated output of 24VDC at 1 Amp. The supply may be fitted with
battery back up which operates an LCU for up to 12 hours in the
event of a mains failure.
The
power supply may be wall mounted or fitted to the rear of the 19"
rack adapter bracket. LED's on the unit give mains and battery status.
Conforms to EN6090 and VDE 0871-B.

Adapter Kit
MOD 6951RM
The adapter kit enables the LCU to
be mounted in a standard 19" rack. The total height of the
bracket is 6U, an extra 1U should be allowed at the bottom for cable
entry. The mains power supply may be fitted to the rear of the bracket
with the fixing supplied.

Card Extender
The
card extender allows the operation of a line card outside the LCU
card frame. This may be used for setting up or fault finding.
